Wont work

Nice try. Would be great if it actually worked. Too expensive and you failed to mention it needed forwarding to "work" too (IF it did, of course). Good luck getting help! That wont work either!

Its about time

Thats one of the shortcomings of the iPhone, boring tones. So Im happy to get a hold this app to put more customizeability on my phone.

Boo

Dont waste your money.

Update - Great App Concept - (not) Hampered By Frequent Service Interruptions

Just wanted to post a quick update to my previous review. Service issues seem to have been addressed and I have started to rely on this application for providing me notification of business-critical emails. Upgrading my rating to 4 starts ****. -- Hi.  I quite like the concept of this App.  One of the surprising shortcomings of the iPhone is its lack of attention to additional email functionality, such as customizable email tones. So MailTones can definitly fill this need - if it worked consistantly.  While I find the App solid, with a nice user interface, the supporting email service that generated the Push notifications is frequently down.  This is NOT a problem with Apples PUSH service, but with Electric Pockets email & Push notification service. More over, the Electric Pocket doesnt seem to have any type of emal service monitoring, relying on me to complain via email, so consequently these outages are quite long.   I noticed they have released this App for Blackberry as well - One thing I know about BB users is that theyre expectations of email on the BB very high, so MailTones will need to get their email server issues dealt with asap. While I would love to rate this App higher since the actual App is great, the supporting service issues make the overall experience a poor one to this point. I really hope that Electric Pocket gets their services issues looked after.  Like I said, until Apple expands its Mail Apps functionality, MailTones is a great solution in concept.

Exactly what I needed!

Converting from Blackberry (which has filters for emails) to iPhone and until now I could not find any way to have subject or sender specific alerts on the iPhone natively. Now with MailTones, I can turn off Incoming Email Sounds, and use Gmail filters to forward mail with specific subjects (ie "Urgent") or from specific senders to the MailTones address supplied . Voila I have lots of options re: sounds through iPhone Notifications! Have not used long enough to comment on reliability. As the type of messages I filter with Gmail this way are not particularly private, I am not too concerned about privacy issues. This may be an issue for some. It would be good if there was a setting in Gmail to forward only the Subject and Sender Address to MailTones without sending the text. Then this app would be perfect but otherwise I am happy with how it is working.

Need to forward your mail for this to work.

Its actually a good application that offers a basic feature which should, by now, be present in iOS... but what Electric Pocket Limited fails to mention is that Mailtones requires you to forward your mail to their servers, which will then bump it back to you with the appropriate alert sound. Thats not the end of the world, but could be seen by some as a security risk - so it would have been nice to know this up front.

Super !

This apps is super ! I love it , must have .....

Great app

This is terrific app. I no longer miss an important email because of a one time whoosey alert tone. Now I can choose better alerts and longer alerts. It would be better if there was a few more longer alerts avail.

Great app

Excellent app! It did stop working for a day or two once. Custom tones would be nice.

Fills the gap!

Fills the gap left by Apple in its too simplistic mail app.

You can

It only works if you send a copy of every email to them for reprocessing and return? Who wrote this, the CIA? Share your email with a stranger and double your data usage at the same time. What a concept!

Should have read it closer

Sending a copy of your email to a third party is ridiculous. Pointless.

I like it

It is kinda strange to have to send a copy is your emails. But it works well.

Solved my alert issues

After trying unsuccessfully for weeks to set up email to text with Telus, I found this app. Problem solved. Alerts from my help desk are now flawlessly sent to my phone and iPad. Thanks!

Requires Forwarding Your Mail

In the fourth paragraph, after all the glowing reviews they tell you that you have to forward all your email to them to have the special tones. A great idea with huge privacy concerns - a simple version with no forwarding would BA fabulous - PUT THE FORWARDING REQUIREMENT IN THE FIRST LINE OF THE APP DESCRIPTION PLEASE !!!!!

Adequate, but basic

App does what it claims: you can configure various alerts for different sets of criteria based on the email headers. But the options fizzle from there: no matching the message body, no installing your own tones (not even by hacking! The tones are some proprietary format), no advanced scheduling, etc. Also, Ive seen some emails come that should have matched, but didnt. Not sure if that might have been a cloud issue (yes, its all processed in the cloud), or just a rule-matching issue, but no way for me to know of course. If cloud-processing is a problem for you, then this app wont fly. Given that most users probably have some mission-critical business use for this, it would be nice to have a more reliable, less cloud-oriented design. Is that asking too much for $2.99?

Mailtones

I simply love. It does what it claims. Had problem setting it up with my yahoo account but got aroun

Waste of my money

Wow, should have read the reviews. $10 and they want you to forward all of your email to them, so that tey can sent you a tone ? Save you money. Will not happen on my phone. Where do they get these guys ?

NOT WORKING!

Despite the fact that there were some hiccups from time to time, I was pretty much satisfied with this app. But all of sudden, its just stopped working. Turned out that the "mailtones.net" address has been changed (for some reason) so I reconfigured the email forward settings. Nothing happens. Now I dont even get a verification code for Gmail. I checked all the possible notification settings on my iPhone and theres no reason it shouldnt be working. The funny thing is, the app was working even after I upgraded to iOS 7 a couple of months ago. I emailed the support asking questions but nobody is responding. WHATS GOING ON OVER THERE!? I dont know if this is an iOS 7 bug or what, but at least its the support teams job to get back to their customers with some answers. Id certainly recommend you not to waste your money unless they fix this crap (both service and product quality).

Delayed notifications

Ive been a long time user of mailtones as part of a paging solution. The last few months have shown very noticeable instability and especially delays (minutes or hours) between when an email goes to the private mailtones email address and the notification getting received on the device. Also more recently, clicking the notification to open the mailtones app causes it to hang and crash.
