MailTones - Pager Alerts for Email and Gmail App Reviews

Update - 08-Mar-2016: Mailtones seems to be all but defunct at this point. Messages sent to the address dont go anywhere, arent forwarded to the device, etc. It appears that this app/developer may be defunct, as the app relies on their third party servers, which no longer seem to be forwarding mail. 21-Nov-2015: Use of this app requires you to forward your emails (in their entirety) to a third party mailserver. This is obviously a security issue for most people, exposing their emails in plain text to third parties. The real problem though? They host their own mailservers, this has a monthly cost obviously. Since the app is a one time fee, you can see where this business model fails, selling a one time product that has a monthly upkeep on their part. As a result, the service has gone steadily downhill. I use this for pager emails (as 1 of 2 methods), and the emails are frequently delayed between a few minutes, to a few hours, rendering the service useless. Long story short, unless youre dont care about the emails youre receiving, having third parties with plain-text access to all of your communications, or having stuff delivered in a timely manner, youd be better to find another solution.

Excellent communication with developer when I had question. App is working as intended now. With repeat notifications, I never miss priority mail.

i tried everything but it didnt work on my iphone. i forwarded my iphone email address. i heard the default tone after i set it, but when i receive mails its not working. its the same old email tone i used. i configure iphone mail settings and application settings. application notification settings is set to on, sound settings i change new mail to Off asd what instruction says that i need to turn off the built in tones for email and NOTHING CHANGE with my email tone, i just want my 230yen back to use for another application.

Sometimes the alerts comes in 30 min later then in email. The app doesnt support Russian language at all.

You almost have to have a doctrine to set the thing up. It requires you to forward your emails to its on server. Once you do that you can set different parameters as far as tones for different emails you receive. Very very outdated help menu and well their support wasnt much help (if any help at all). Because of this lovely app I lost a slot of emails. So I wouldnt recommend it. Ha. This app has a higher disapproval rating than Obama!!

Knowing that they get a copy of your email is bad news!!

I was very happy find app after looking for several weeks. I needed to replace my Blackberry Level 1 notifications with something on the iPhone for critical pages that I CANNOT miss. The proved itself to be the best of all the apps I tried, and it had remained dependable. Greatly appreciated!

The app is a little temperamental sometimes but still a good app to have to get an alarm for certain emails. Allows me to get system generated emails from work without having to constantly checking in or having someone do it for me.

This app works by forwarding your emails through their email address. I guess its ok if you want a third party to have access to all your incoming emails! no thanks

This is the worst app that I or my family had purchased for our iphones. Reported the problem to their "support" and have not received any response. That was three days ago. If you are looking at this app - look further. Will update this reveiw if I ever hear from their "support".

Youre crazy if you think Im going to forward my email messages to some strange email address. I dont know who you are or what capabilities you have on the other end. I know as an app developer that its very shady to have people forwarding secure emails to an unknown account. Very shady indeed. Refund my money. This app has questionable protocol that Apple has no control over. Apple has no clue if these people are reading your emails. This is how identity theft starts.

This is such an incredibly bad idea. This application expects you to forward a copy of every single email you receive to a strange email address. Only an idiot would agree to do this.

Losing privacy by forwarding all emails to the company is not worth it!!!!!!

Tried for hours to replicate the instructions. Gave up after receiving two emails with strange and obnoxious ring tone that couldnt find on my iPhone 4S. It may be a great program but it spooked me and wasted my time.

This app is absolutely perfect for my needs as an operations engineer. I am able to configure alerts for different infrastructure alert emails I receive based on severity. This helps me respond appropriately to serious problems, while allowing me to sleep through problems that dont have to be dealt with immediately. The UI is simple and effective, the sounds cover a wide range of scenarios, and filtering based on subject is absolutely killer. Ive been looking for an app like this for weeks since Boxcar became useless. Thanks for making such a great tool.

As an IT person, I get way too many emails each day but I do have some emails where I need to be notified. This does a pretty good job since the iphone doesnt have a way to do this with its own alerting. MailTones could be improved. It would be nice if it kept a histoyr of the last 10 alerts or so because if you clear the alert and you forget what the alert was, there is no way to find it. Would be a nice feature. Other than that it works really good.

Spent 3 hours trying to get it set up and still no luck. Seriously mad about this.
